Do’s and Don’ts

Most people that decide to undergo plastic surgery for the first time can’t possibly know what to expect. The fear of the unknown that follows the procedure is a completely normal thing and it will occur to almost anyone. However, there are some things that you should know and prepare for before undergoing a rhinoplasty.
Needless to say, it’s important that you pick a plastic surgeon you can trust with your body, but it’s also important to change your diet and plan for the time off after the surgery. Here’s our list of things you should and shouldn’t do when undergoing plastic surgery.
#1 Do – Go For the Healthy Weight Before Surgery
If you’re undergoing plastic surgery in order to become slimmer and healthier, you need to do your best to lose weight before surgery. This is vital because big fluctuations in weight after plastic surgery can negate the results and cause problems you don’t want to be dealing with.
When it comes to plastic surgery after pregnancy, you should probably avoid doing plastic surgery unless you’re absolutely sure you won’t have another baby. If you’re looking forward to another child, you can wait for that to happen and then opt for cosmetic surgery.
#2 Don’t – Avoid Doing Too Much
Plastic surgery has come a long way in the past 20 years and it’s now fairly common for women to undergo a procedure in order to look younger. However, where most women make a mistake is believing that they need a complete ‘overhaul’ in order to look younger.
This not only increases operating room time but can also easily lead to you going through a shock once you don’t recognize your face or body. Multiple unrelated procedures should be avoided and you should instead choose a fewer number of procedures focusing on one problem at a time.
#3 Do – Ask Questions
You shouldn’t be afraid to ask any questions you may have for your doctor. Most people don’t understand the impact of plastic surgery and judge it solely on its reputation (whether it’s good or bad). If you’re thinking about undergoing a procedure, you should feel comfortable to ask anything that might pose an issue for you.
This is also the best way for your doctor to understand what you’re really after. If you want to know more about the procedure and the risks involved, you should ask that too. This is also important for you to determine whether you trust your surgeon enough to do the procedure with them, or you may change your mind completely.
#4 Don’t – Don’t Book the Procedure Shortly Before a Big Event
Your body needs time to recover after plastic surgery, so if you’re planning on doing it before an event do make sure to do it at least 3-4 months earlier. This isn’t to say that you won’t be able to go out for 4 months, as your face/body should be ready for social gatherings after a couple of weeks. But if you’re looking to be at your best, you should probably wait a little longer, as some procedures like nose surgery may require extra time because of the swelling.
#5 Do – Consult More Than One Doctor
As with everything in life, different doctors will have completely different opinions about what should be done to help you look better. Choosing a surgeon can sometimes be difficult, but the more time you invest in it the better chances of becoming a satisfied customer you’ll have.
Different surgeons will have different styles, so you may want to ask them for pictures of before and after surgery and see if you like what they’ve done or not. In any case, you should be absolutely comfortable with the doctor you choose if you want to get the best results.
Bottom Line
Cosmetic surgery has its limits which is why it’s important for you to have realistic expectations. Smaller procedures can severely impact the way you look and may just be enough for what you’re aiming for, which is why it’s important to undergo procedures one at a time.
Doing a complete makeover is a huge no, as there’s too high of a risk for you to be unsatisfied with your new looks – but at that point, there’s no revert button. Before doing anything, be sure to consult your doctor and try to know exactly what you’re looking for. The more you know about plastic surgery, the better results you’ll have when undergoing procedures, so try to do your research before making any rash decisions.
